Indigenous fashion is more vibrant than ever! See Native creativity showcased through a fashion performance at the Museum, co-curated by Armando Perla, Chief Curator, Textile Museum of Canada, and multidisciplinary Métis artist Jason Baerg. As an Indigenous Futurist, Baerg finds inspiration in the concept of shapeshifting and emphasizes the need for radical respect, love, and care.

As part of his practice, Jason Baerg embarked on a four-year journey, exploring and incorporating profound teachings from the Cree Medicine Wheel. Each year, he dedicated his creative endeavours in the studio to honour a specific aspect of the wheel. Considering that this series was produced during the fall and winter of 2023, the transitional period in the Medicine Wheel, it encompasses both the considerations of the South, with the elements of Earth and Metal, and of the West, with Water, Sage, and the colour Blue.

The show will open with three original looks by Montreal-based Anishinaabe and French visual artist Caroline Monnet.
